Involvements

Best Buddies
This is a nonprofit organization that pairs cognitively and/or emotionally impaired
adults with Central Michigan University students to develop relationships. Buddy pairs get to hangout and go do fun things around the city and university, as well as

This year I was paired with a buddy named Misty halfway through the year and it has been exciting building a friendship and connection with her. I am excited to watch our friendship grow throughout my four years at Central. I am also applying to be the director of fundraising next semester.

CVFC

CVFC stands for College Volunteer Facilitation Corp. This is a group of college students throughout the state of Michigan that work with the organization MASC/MAHS to facilitate leadership camps, trainings, conferences, etc. I am also a part of the Research 21430253_1606855472699047_8800763994634675598_n.jpgand Resources team currently where I am developing various resources for the organization to distribute to its member schools in an effort to give suggestions for improving the climate of our schools in the state. We are also making “cold calls” as a way to spread awareness of the benefits of the organization and the events it puts on to recruit more member schools.

Alpha Sigma Tau (AST)

This year I joined the sorority Alpha Sigma Tau on campus. This is a great way to network with others in the greek community, develop a healthy support system, and gain more leadership skills and opportunities. This year I am serving as AST’s photographer as I further my photography skills. IMG_7561

Centralis Honors College

Accepting the Centralis Scholarship means being a

23754647_1738147646238204_24445059031836319_npart of the Honor’s program here at Central. I am a part of a cohort of 165 students that all live together in Larzelere hall their first year as freshman. We also take Honors100 which is a class of all 165 of us with the Honors Program Director as our professor. Honors has challenged us to think globally and be aware of our perspective on the world. I am excited to see how I grow within this program and the opportunities it provides me with.

Leader Advancement Scholarship (LAS) Cohort

This is a group of 48 freshman students. We all take classes together throughout our four years that will eventually turn into a leadership minor. We also receive a mentor as freshman that will be someone to guide us through our years here. Then, when we become sophomores we will receive mentees of our own and help them with the adjustment of college itself and help with the protocol of LAS. Throughout the years as LAS members we also attend leadership conferences together, and as we become upperclassmen we will have the chance to begin to facilitate these as well.

Isabella County Restoration Home (ICRH) Involvement

The Isabella County Restoration Home is a day shelter in Mount Pleasant for those in our community facing homelessness. I am currently enrolled in a class where we are doing the interior design of the shelter to help create a more welcoming, safe, and useful environment. Specifically, we are creating a resource center to make classes, job applications, and other community information readily available. We are also working to create personalization to make guests feel as if they have ownership while at ICRH. The final big project we are working on is a children’s center because currently the shelter is 1/3 children.

I am also getting involved in the up and coming ICRH RSO. The goal of the group is to volunteer at the shelter, raise awareness of homelessness, and help to fundraise for the shelter.

This is a cause I have become so passionate about through my experience and isn’t something I would have saw myself investing so much time in before coming to college. It is exciting to see new passions developing.
